MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, and SHANGHAI, CHINA, March 1, 2005 - MIPS Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, today announced the opening of MIPS Technologies (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary. An extension of MIPS Technologies' engineering operations, this R&D center will focus on the development of new MIPS® processor hard cores, help Chinese companies design state-of-the art digital consumer devices and provide technical support to licensees throughout the region.
The opening of the R&D center was announced in tandem with MIPS Technologies' official entry into the Chinese embedded microprocessor market. Utilizing the company's extensive microprocessor technologies and IC design expertise along with local engineering talent, the center will create optimized MIPS hard cores targeting local manufacturing foundries such as SMIC and others, reducing SoC design cycle time and enabling rapid time to market for customers worldwide.
