Firmware Development Leader/Manager.
As a Firmware Development Leader/Manager at PMC-Sierra, you will lead a team of designers in developing firmware for embedded processors within modern System-on-Chip (SoC) Internet infrastructure devices. In addition to firmware development, your team will also perform unit testing of firmware-based features on the prototype devices, as well as create all necessary documentation for these features.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Lead, you will do the following:
- Specify requirements of firmware components for new products.
- Technically lead and mentor a team of engineers in developing product firmware.
- Design, develop, integrate, debug, test and maintain critical portions of product firmware.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems during firmware bring-up on target hardware.
- Take responsibility for the quality and performance of firmware components developed by your team.
- Take responsibility for planning, setting goals and meeting deadlines for your team. Create all necessary documentation such as design documents, user manuals and release notes for delivered firmware components.
- Work with remotely located teams to assure on-spec and on-time delivery of components.
- Foster and conduct formal reviews of code written by yourself and your team.
Job Qualifications:
The qualification requirements for this position include the following:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
- Eight or more years of experience in embedded software development for MIPS, ARM or similar CPU systems, three or more years in a technical leadership position.
- Proficiency in C/C++ and assembly code development for Linux or similar operating systems. Driver, kernel and bootloader development is an asset.
- In-depth understanding of Ethernet, T1/E1, ATM, Frame Relay and other communications protocols.
- Experience in hardware/software co-debugging.
- Knowledge and use of GNU toolchain in a cross-development environment.
- Experience with at least one scripting language (Tcl/Tk, Perl, or similar).
- Strong problem solving and hands-on debugging skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English (CET 6 at least) and Mandarin.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience as part of a collaborative development team.
- Project management (planning, resource management, requirements management, status reporting, schedule tracking, risk management) skills.
- Experience in or knowledge on system-level validation
