assuming you have dvdd=1.0v and avdd=2.0v, do you see, if you use pmos, you can do a level shifting? you have to use nmos in this case since the pmos input can be always on --> you will not see a logic toggling.

for 2nd stage, I do not see a special requirement on pmos or nmos as the input stage.
