The efficiency of a DC/DC converter usually has the following few items:
(1) Conduction loss: generated by the resistance of the siwtches.
(2) Switching loss: the overlapped of the current and voltage duing the switching operation
(3) Other losses: gate charge, inductor loss etc.
Now days integrated switches has optimized device/design to reduce the dominate loss mechanism therefore there is no easy way to estimate the total DC/DC converter loss. Actually the easiest way is to publish a typical loss curve w.r.t. load and line operation so the user can lookup the expected loss by simply refer to his working condition in the curve.
