Cost saving is absolutely one reason that engineers salary is limit in China.
Competition is another reason.
The third reason, at least in my mind, is the weight of engineering in a company.
In the US, every quartus there is a public quarterly report. Any delay, mistake,
product defect/recall, major customer loss or influential market share report
drive the stock price. There is no room to make mistakes in product and must pay
engineers to keep delivering.
In China, at least I heard of many stories that defected products could be sold
after drunkening the customers, bribing them and sending them to lady massage.
Therefore the pressures are on marketing/sales.
Is it true sales/marketing are rewarded more than engineers in China?
