Digital libraries are used in ASIC design for synthesis, static timing analysis, and power estimation. The Liberty file format is a standard format supported by many tools, including Cadence’s Innovus, and sign-off tools like Cadence’s Tempus and Voltus. The Virtuoso Liberate Characterization tool is the accurate, efficient, and easy-to-use library characterizer to create the Liberty file for digital libraries. Liberate uses SPICE simulation, supported through Spectre, for capturing a cell model that is almost as accurate a SPICE, but does not require the CPU runtime of SPICE simulation on a full ASIC design. This Rapid Adoption Kit (RAK) gives a general overview of the syntax of Liberty (.lib) file, and how to to use Liberate to run characterization to generate the Liberty file. Last Tested Releases: Liberate 19.2.1
