In recent years, we have been witnessing a growing demand by users for bandwidth to support broadband wireless services, such as high-defnition TV, mobile video phones, video conferencing, and high-speed internet access. With the widespread use of smart devices, as well as the rapid growth in the next generation of internet-of-things (IoT) applications, the quest for suffcient bandwidth is rapidly growing. In the access networks (i.e., last meter and last mile), there are a number of technologies that can address end-users’ communications needs, including copper wire, hybrid coaxial, and optical fbre cables, fbre-to-the-home, and a range of radio frequency (RF)-based wireless communications.
