actually the channel is formed between source and drain .. what can affect the flow from source to drain is basically the gate voltage .. if your bulk and source are not at the same voltage or the bulk is not the most negative voltage of your circuit (in case of NMOS), you will have what is called the body effect which will affect your threshold voltage ..

理论上来讲,当Vgs>Vth时,NMOSFET导通。这一结论是基于Vbs=0的情况之下而得出的。当Vbs不等于0的时候,Vgs>Vth也是成立的,但是这时候的Vth就不是咱们经常所说的0.4V了,而是要加上second order effect-body effect。而不是单纯的Vgb与Vth之间的关系能决定的,这里面涉及了semiconductor fundamental的一些知识,Vth的变化就不会是线性的了。对于只考虑second order effect 是有一个公式的。所以最快的方法就是记住,然后慢慢理解。如果真的想深入理解,最好学一下MOS Device这门课。希望能帮助你吧。我也是初学者。
