NOTE: All material on these pages is copyrighted. For more information, read the Copyright Statement.
The demodulator is the final internal section of the EECE6989 IC. It takes the output of the IF amplifier (which is still modulated) and demodulates it, producing the original message. This device has three main sections: 1) a mixer, 2) a phase-shift network, and 3) a low-pass filter (LPF). The mathematics involved in demodulation are briefly described in Section 2, "Demodulator Concepts". The sections of this web page describe the design of the demodulator that we used in our project.
Section 1, "Introduction", is this page.
Section 2, "Demodulator Concepts", answers a few basic questions about frequency shift keyed (FSK) demodulation, and covers the basic mathematical concepts behind the process.
Section 3, "Demodulator Schematics/Design", contains the transistor-level schematic of the demodulator section, and briefly describes the techniques used to design each section.
Section 4, "Simulation Results", shows the results of spice3 simulations using this design.
Section 5, "CMOS Layout", shows how the design translates to a chip.
Section 6, "Test Results", has the test results for the fabricated chip. (NOTE: This section will not be completed until Fall 2000, when we receive the finished chips from MOSIS).
Section 7, "Overall Project", includes a little information about the overall project, as well as links to the other project pages and the class web page.
Section 8, "Copyright Statement", contains the copyright for this design.
Section 9, "Links", has a few links that contain useful information relevant to the project.
