ECS Installation Notes for Version 2.41
                    05/19/92
This document describes the installation procedure for the latest
release of ECS software.
If you are reading this file after installation is complete, please
skip to the next section.
Installation procedure
----------------------
Follow the procedure below to install the version 2.41 of ECS
software on the PC.
1.  Install windows 3.0/3.1 on your hard disk following the
    Windows installation instructions.
2.  Backup your designs from previous versions of ECS software. It
    is always good engineering practice to back up your designs before
    installing new software.
3.  Backup any .ini files that you currently use. If you install
    this version of the software over an existing version, the ecs.ini and
    simulator.ini files provided with this copy of ecs will overwrite any  
    earlier .ini files. You will probably use your old ecs.ini
    file since it has any special attributes that you created.
    You should compare your old ECS.INI file with the new
    file to ensure that any new switches or attributes from the
    latest ecs.ini file are merged into your old ecs.ini file.
    If a DATA directory already exists you will be given the option of
    backing it up in a directory called "DATA\BACKUP". There should be
    no directory by the name BACKUP if you want the installation program
    to make a backup. If you do not want a backup, and any .INI files are
    found in the existing data directory, they will be renamed with .%%%
    extension before the new .INI files are installed.
4.  Install the ECS .exe files in a directory below the root directory
    This is typically called ECS241. Make sure that the ECS Program disk #1
    is inserted in the floppy drive. To start install, select the "Run"
    command from the Program Manager's File Menu. Enter the following
    as the command line when the dialog box comes up:
     A:SETUP    ( or whatever drive you may be using )
5.  The installation program checks to see that you have enough
    disk space and prompts you when needed. Keep an eye on the
    Information window for additional comments and tips. A program group
    named "ECS Release 2.41" and a program item for ECS will be created.
    The startup file used at boot-time will be edited to set the
    environment if you wish. This includes prefixing the PATH environment
    variable with the appropriate path for ECS and setting the TEMP variable
    if none exists. However, the PC needs to be rebooted before
    running ECS.
