nice to see many PCI lover here.
I have designed PCi since 1996. lots of fun. However PCI will be out of market in 2005. PCI-x will replace it as new standard.
don't study PCI any more. try to study PCI-X!

PCI-X与PCI基本一致。
将来流行的应该是PCI-EXPRESS(3GIO)

PCI-EXPRESS: 串行PCI总线。

现在谈应该学习什么还太早，我认为工程师的设计是跟着市场走得，将来的PC上到底采用什么总线还不一定；况且即使没有了PCI，主板厂商也会提供一段时间的对PCI的兼容，或者是会涌现一批类似9052（PCI－ISA）一类的直接转换的芯片；如果需要的话，利用这段时间来学习岂不更好？

mother board factors have agree to phase out PCI no later than 2007. Intel mother board will provide PCI-X this year and discountine PCi-only function in 2005.
PCI-X 2.0 spec is available the speed is 266MHz/533MHz with double data rate and quard data rate.
PCI-X will not be replaced by PCI-Express. there are in different application. PCI-x is good for high throughput, such as storage server, DMA and others. PCI express is designed for box to box application. it will replace USB (or maybe1394).
