Due to the progress in the development of communication systems, it is now possible to develop low cost wearable communication systems. Wearable antennas are antennas incorporated into clothing or worn close to the body; they are used for communication and medical purposes, which include tracking and navigation, mobile computing, and public health and safety. Examples include smartwatches (with integrated Bluetooth antennas), glasses (such as Google Glass with Wi-Fi and GPS antennas), GoPro action cameras (with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas) and sensors to monitor patient health. They are increasingly common in consumer electronics and for healthcare and medical applications.
Dr Albert Sabban holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Colorado at Boulder, USA (1991), and an MBA from the Faculty of Management, University of Haifa, Israel (2005). He is currently Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Kinneret College and ORT Braude College. In 1976 he joined RAFAEL in Israel where he worked as a Senior Researcher, Group Leader and Project Leader in the Electromagnetic Department until 2007. From 2007 to 2010, Albert Sabban was a RF and Antenna Specialist at biomedical hi-tech companies where he designed wearable compact systems and antennas for medical systems. From 2008 to 2010 he worked as a RF Specialist and Project Leader at hi-tech biomedical companies. He has published over 100 research papers and holds a patent in the antenna area.
