flash IP中，reference cell的一个问题

在台积电的内嵌flashIP核的specification中，会有这样一个东西：“erase reference cell”
请问：
1. 这个“reference cell”是个什么鬼？？？
2.specification中说：“Since the read operation needs erased reference cell, customer must perform the erase reference cell test mode ONCE on fresh sample.”
    意思是不是说：在进行读操作之前必须要erase reference cell，否则读不出来？（其实这个我已经做过仿真了，确实是这样子的）
                         要是不进行erase reference cell操作，是否可以进行program操作？
                         erase reference cell到底是对flash IP怎么了？？？

reference cell 是用来做Iref 电流用的，如果你的iref不矫正，怎么能正确读出cell的状态呢
