That's a good question！
Undeniable, 2D tools can modeling TLine easily and fast, but each tool has its limitations:
ADS: Can't model microstrip line and trapezoid stripline
Hspice: Calculate TDR have some controversy(confirmed with synopsys and they can't solve it)

So in my company, we suggest using HFSS to modeling the TLine.
