The report revealed the top 10 mobile phone brands that received the most number of complaints, which included Xiaomi, Meizu, Huawei, ZTE, HTC, Nokia, Lenovo and Motorola.
Founded less than four years ago, Xiaomi's annual sales have touched 28 billion yuan (US$4.5 billion) and its valuation has exceeded US$10 billion.
Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun announced in January that the company sold 18.7 million smartphones in 2013, up 160% from a year earlier and more than its initial target of 15 million devices. He added that Xiaomi had generated total sales of 31.6 billion yuan (US$5.1 billion), up 150% from last year. For December alone, the company sold 3.23 million smartphones, the report said.
Xiaomi's brisk sales were marred by numerous complaints however, with its after-sales services becoming the focus of complaints. Many customers said they were unable to recoup their losses incurred from buying counterfeit products and that their privacy rights were compromised while downloading apps from third party stores, which they later found were closed. In addition, product quality was another major cause for complaints against Xiaomi, the report said. |
