If you are not happy with the integrated solution, you don't have to copy the transistor level design when you working on the discrete solution. There are big differences between integrated and discrete design, for example, discrete design will never have the great matching of an integrated solution, and the relativley low parasitics due to the close proximity of the devices; on the other hand, it's a very hard for the integrated design to have a seemingly simple device, such as a resistor... believe or not, the integrated resistors a so lousy that any cheap discrate resistor would easily beat them, not to mentioning the tiny, area consuming capacitors. I'm not even thinking of an integrated inductor... so if you want to build a discrete circuit, by all means, take advantage of these great passive devices and you probably are much well off not to copying the circuits of an integrated solution. |
