I would recommend you stick with analog as much as you could (perhaps due to my digital/logic design background, I'm envying guys who possess the analog design expertise). If you look at latest SoC designs from those big companies, you may find that mixed signal is quite essential in these designs (for example, if you want to integrate the PHY for USB, Ethernet or PCIe interconnect, then you would need SerDes, which is analog design indeed) - not to mention there are PLL, ADC, DAC, etc. blocks out there for accompanying digital/logic portion inside the chip.
You may find that sensor technology is getting more and more attention right now (just look at joy stick from Nintendo Wii, for instance) and in long run people would demand more and more sensor feature being integrated into devices.
Therefore, I think the future of being an analog designer shall be very promising - though Intel CTO just suggested recently that people should rethink analog issues from "digital" perspective/domain |
