There is a specific topic in this book that I have not seem covered inany of the 25+ book that I have on electromagnetic phenomena. The topicis the shield cut-off frequency of a coaxial cable. Common-modecurrents at low frequencies (below a few hundred hertz) cause noiseproblems with coaxial cables, but signals above tens of kilohertz donot. This is vital data which is apparently not explained in many textbooks. For me, this topic justifies the cost of the text. Having saidthat, I am annoyed because the book is quite expensive relative toother books of its size and age. The point is that you have to buy it,but it is expensive to do so.

Even an advanced designer will benefit from this book, although you,like me, won't necessarily want to read all of it. It is sufficient topick and choose areas of particular interest. The less advanceddesigner would clearly benefit more and the book would thereforerepresent better value for them. Given a choice between this one andMorrison's Grounding and Shielding Techniques in Instrumentation, pickthis one. This one is more technically accurate and useful.

Henry Ott provides an excellent reference in "Noise ReductionTechniques in Electronic Systems". It is a comprehensive look at thesources of EMI in electronic circuits and also provides valuableinsights into the reduction/elimination of the noise interference tomeet the applicable test standards. It is must-read for noviceengineers and a great refresher for the more experienced designer. NoEMC engineer or system design engineer worth his/her salt should bemissing this volume on their bookshelf!
