2.2 Stack-Supported PROFINET-IO Functionality
The PROFINET-IO stack enables an "automatic operation controller" application (programmable
logic controller, adapter card, robot controller, machine control system etc.) to be created on the
PROFINET network. It manages full communication with all devices configured for exchanging
process data.
The PROFINET-IO stack enables:
• Cyclic functionality (RT_CLASS_1):
o Exchange of input/output data with connected devices
o The connection configuration supports:
o 1 AR
o 1 input CR
o 1 output CR
o 1 alarm CR
• Acyclic functionality
o Reading of diagnostic information contained in the devices
o Device configuration
o Writing of configuration parameters
o Acyclic access to device "record data"
o Management of device-generated alarms
• General functionality
o RPC support for PROFINET
o DCP support
