2.0 out of 5 stars Slides from a short course, June 19, 2007

I get really pissed off at authors who desperately want to commercialize their course contents into books with very little detail (how much detail can you put into powerpoint presentations !!). Many concepts have to be explained in much greater detail. I needed a good book on power management ICs and a search brought this one up. This author has written a good book on Voltage References and I didn't even read the excerpt or a sample chapter before buying it. When I got it, and began reading it, I found it very annoying to have to refer to other books or google searches to comprehend what the author was trying to explain or how he came up with an equation. Do not buy this book. Let us discourage authors from publishing their course contents for money. If you do a google search you will find genuine authors who post their material on the web for free. If you write a book....write a proper book. Don't leave an unfinished feel to it. God I want to write so much more but I will let you judge this horrible book for yourself!!
2.0 out of 5 stars Expected More out of a Text Book, April 19, 2008

(REAL NAME)
I was very excited when i saw this title on sale, on Amazon. After going the the first few chapters, i ended-up being very frustrated, realizing the book is designed more like a follow-up material for a work-shop and/or seminar rather than a text book. It did not have any verbose explanation of any of the material like a conventional text book most of us are accustomed to.
However a review of the .pdf available on the authors website of his PHD work in the subject, demonstrated he is very knowledgeable and a prolific writer. I was rather disappointed not seeing quite the level of detail or quality of work that a published book usually warrants.
Its unlikely i would recommend this very book to other colleagues of mine. |
