It seems like there is a conflict between variable CALIBRE_HOME and MGC_HOME. For me, I set only CALIBRE_HOME and it works well.

My previous post is incorrect. Calibre script can manage these 2 variables by itself. The problem would be that your system didn't have programs "basename" and "tr", so check your linux distro how to install those packages and this should do the trick.
