Embedded System Software Engineer - Smart Grid (Shanghai)

Smart Grid is the next big infrastructure play for Cisco that aims to allow connected utilities to supply electricity in a more efficient and sustainable way and consumers to gain better efficiency and control of their energy consumption. By providing a secure, IP-based communications infrastructure from generation to home and business, Cisco Smart Grid solutions are designed to bridge multiple technologies and an ecosystem of partners to optimize communications, improve resilience and reduce the operational cost of energy systems, which can boost global economical growth and environmental sustainability.

Smart Grid Business Unit is looking for an experienced Embedded System Software Engineer to help build an RF or PLC-based mesh network platform for connecting millions of smart grid devices including electric/gas meters, grid sensors/controllers, distribution automation devices, home appliance and gadgets, edge routers, etc. The platform is based on the latest open standards from IETF and IEEE to enable end-to-end IP connectivity to every device on the smart grid.

Responsibilities
* Development of embedded software for Cisco’s smart grid endpoint reference design SDK
* Port the SDK to approved chipsets and devices
* Extend SDK with customer-specific requirements
* System testing and performance benchmarking
* Tracking and implementing China-specific networking standards

Key Requirements (Required)
* Proficient in C language
* Experiences with software development in resource and power constrained micro-controller environments
* Experiences with mesh network and / or sensor network
* Good understanding of internet protocols
* Excellent written & oral communication skills (English & Chinese)
* Team player, eager to learn on the job

Work Experience
* Open to consider fresh graduates in 2011 (research on relevant topics preferred)
* Open to consider recent graduates with 0-3 years of relevant work experience (research on relevant topics preferred)
* Open to consider professionals with 1-5 years of relevant work experience

Desired Requirements (NOT Required)
* Familiarity with ARM Cortex M3 and IAR a plus
* Familiarity with IEEE802.15.4 radios and / or G3 / PRIME PLC a plus
* Familiarity with IETF 6LoWPAN, RPL, CoAP a plus
* Knowledge of Utilities industry a plus
