Product Description:
This volume is the first in a series of three books addressing Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) physics, devices, circuits and design across the full range of integrated circuit technologies. ESD Physics and Devices provides a concise treatment of the ESD phenomenon and the physics of devices operating under ESD conditions. Voldman presents an accessible introduction to the field for engineers and researchers requiring a solid grounding in this important area. The book contains advanced CMOS, Silicon On Insulator, Silicon Germanium, and Silicon Germanium Carbon. In addition it also addresses ESD in advanced CMOS with discussions on shallow trench isolation (STI), Copper and Low K materials. - Provides a clear understanding of ESD device physics and the fundamentals of ESD phenomena.
- Analyses the behaviour of semiconductor devices under ESD conditions.
- Addresses the growing awareness of the problems resulting from ESD phenomena in advanced integrated circuits.
- Covers ESD testing, failure criteria and scaling theory for CMOS, SOI (silicon on insulator), BiCMOS and BiCMOS SiGe (Silicon Germanium) technologies for the first time.
- Discusses the design and development implications of ESD in semiconductor technologies.
An invaluable reference for EMC non-specialist engineers and researchers working in the fields of IC and transistor design. Also, suitable for researchers and advanced students in the fields of device/circuit modelling and semiconductor reliability.
Summary: A very good ESD book about ESD physics and devices
Rating: 5
I have had this book for a long time. This one is the first book of the author's ESD book series which cover the most comprehensive topics related to ESD protection comparing with other ESD books. This book is good and very rigorous, starting from basic ESD concepts, leading to the physics of ESD protection devices, then focusing on the topics of stringent ESD design issues. It takes the reader from an intuitive level of understanding ESD issues to a mathematical explantion based on this understanding. This book combines the depth of theory and practical applications which are based on the author's many year's industry experience. It is suitable as both introductory and advanced. I have been done some ESD protection design projects and I always keep this book at hand as a tool book. This is a truly useful book.
Summary: Great series for ESD education!
Rating: 5
This book, ESD: Physics and Devices, is part of a 3-book series on Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) by the same author (Steven Voldman).
One of the main strengths of this series (and there are very many) is that this is very recently published with new and updated datapoints, not to mention being the only series of ESD textbook. Essentially, this means that all the latest developments in the field is published in an easy-to-understand series.
In this book, Voldman writes about the physics of ESD protection devices and circuits in his unique style which is illuminating both for experts and beginners alike. ESD implications for as technology changes are clearly stated and explained, with numerous data points measured from physical devices. I highly recommend this book series to all students of integrated circuit design and ESD.
