It's key features are - it's independence, scope and practical insights.
Very detailed but also an enjoyable read.

I especially liked it because it helped me clarify many concepts independently (i.e. you can read the vendor's documents but they are biased by definition). Have no hesitation in recommending it

This is the best book on UMTS radio network planning. In fact it is a masterpiece. Well detailed contents, good diagrams and easy to understand plain English. Covers some theory on air interface techniques as well. Warmly recommended especially for RN planning tool designers.

I've read more than 5 books about UMTS air-interface. However,most of books concern only about the physical structure. They didn't tell you WHY the structure is made for. In this book, the explanation is clear and the summary table is really useful. Most of all,it tell you WHY they are made for. Only you know the SPIRIT of physical structure,you will realize the BEAUTY of 3G. I recommand this book for someone with beginning knowledge about UMTS.

This is one of the best books I've seen and read on 3G matters. Not recommended for those people who are not technical enough (or who hates) to go into the details of mathematical formulas. This book starts with presenting the architecture of UMTS networks and goes on to describe each of the components of a UMTS network (from user equipment up to the core network). Written by people who actually work with Nokia (one of the companies in the world who are at the forefront of UMTS development). This book can be very helpful to UMTS network planners but it's VERY LIMITED on the subject of optimisation. If you're looking for a book on UMTS (WCDMA) optimisation, this book will not suffice but the subjects of network planning (with and without GSM) are very well covered. Nonetheless, this book is highly recommended !!! 4 stars!

Its not quite organized like a college text, but flows like the radio system design itself. From a base, rippling through a cluttered city, to a user, a person. This is an "only source" for the "radio model" of man, detailed if somewhat belabored, but available no where else. At this date [2002] perhaps pagers and paging are not timeless, but the udates from the original edition do touch on wireless telephony -- and always timeless: radios near the body. Worth a 5* for the unique content!

As a graduate student I was fortunate enough to fully experience this book in all its terrible glory. The book is FULL of errors and if you attempt the problems you will realize this. Moreover the conceptual content was very insufficient. Anyone who doesn't already know a lot about this subject, cannot hope this book will explain anything. The instructor told me that even the solution manual had errors. This is the worst textbook I have ever owned.

"Radiowave Propagation and Antennas for Personal Communications" is thorough and comprehensive enough to meet the needs of experienced practitioners, yet detailed and lucid enough to serve as a textbook for graduate students.

Some errors not withstanding, a book that will most certainly benefit a practicing engineer! All those who have not studied antennas in their course work, yet need to specify, test and deploy; all those who will never see an antenna, but must understand the path-loss mechanism in a fading environment will find it an invaluable resource. It describes the cellular/PCS propagation phenomena in down to earth terms, and ties them neatly to the handset/base-station requirements.
