Summary: Medley
Rating: 3
Its almost a mix of all kinds of stuff. Even contains verilog code. A little too much for an analog text right ?? But probably Artech publishing gimmickry. However, whatever relevant stuff is out there, its classy. Good treatment of phase / freq detectors, and excellent treatment of sigma delta loops for pll design.
Summary: 4.5 stars
Rating: 5
I have only covered the chapter on sigma delta modulation of fractional N synthesizers in this book, but based on that I am pleased with the content of the text so far.
The search for a good frequency synthesizer text will not produce many good candidates. Most texts on this subject are academic and offer idealized analysis of pll's without dealing with the nonlinear aspects or offering practical circuit realizations. Some texts are just awefull. I get the impression that many authors on frequency synthesizers have minimal design experience.
Even though I have only covered a small portion of the text, it seems to be the best one on frequency synthesizers that I have found so far.
